Product Description

The Thinkpad T40 is a light, compact laptop.  Weighing in at just under 5 pounds and only 1 inch thick, it comes with a 1.5 GHz Intel Centrino processor that uses intelligent processor allocation for better performance (faster than a P4 2GHz!) and improved battery life.  It also has a 14" Liquid Crystal display and a built in DVD-ROM.  A ThinkLight keyboard illuminator is built in to the top of the case to allow you keep working even when the lights are low.  It has two 2.0 USB ports, a serial port, a modem, a 10/100 connection, a PCMCIA slot, and built in high speed 802.11b Wi-Fi.   Truly a system that will give you all the performance you need on the go!

5The best laptop I've owned- and I've owned dozens...!!!
By darkeyes825
I buy, sell, and repair computers for a living, so alot of laptops pass through my hands. In the last year, I have personally owned Compaqs, Dells, IBMs, Acers, Sonys, and other laptops; including Pentium 3m, AMD Athlon XPm, and Pentium 4m models. I have held onto my T40 for sevral reasons: size, portability, battery life, speed, cost, reliability.. the list is endless! I even tried to upgrade to a Z60 a few months ago (because of the fingerprint reader, built-in sd card reader, 2.0ghz cpu, etc..) but decided to keep the T40 and re-sell the newer Z60 for the same price I bought it for (something I NEVER do, I always try to turn a profit!!!)The Z60 was nice, but not as fast as my t40... the Dells and Compaqs and Sonys don't even come close to either. I use Verizon Mobile Broadband, and also own several wireless-g usb adapters, so the built-in wireless-b card doesn't bother me- even when I do use it, it's plenty fast (11 mbps is faster than most cable connections anyway; unless you're networking and streaming multimedia between a few pc's it should be more than enough!!!)Mine also has gigabit ethernet, so on the rare occasion that I plug in, it's great...I upgraded my t40 to 2 gigs of ram for $140, by watching Staples like a hawk and catching 1 gig ddr for $70 each on sale, then I sold my original 512 for $30, so it really only cost $110.

5"The standard by which all others are measured..."
By Jerry Parks
This is laptop #4, and the least powerful of them all. I have a state-of-the-art Toshiba U-305, a Dell 700, and an HP dv2000 which I love. But I've always wanted a ThinkPad to address all the kudos I've heard.Does it really have that great tactile keyboard feel? Does the battery really last that long? Does it really work like a horse and function like a fine-tuned machine? Does the wifi card really pick up like a magnet? Yep.I got mine refurbished and have never worried once that I needed an aftermarket warranty. The keyboard is like a luxury car you want to travel cross-county in. The battery is wonderfully long-lasting, and, leaving behind all the pretensions of the 'latest and greatest' laptops--my ThinkPad is the one I would miss most. And once you get a taste of the ThinkVantage IBM support, you'll understand why some things really do live up to their reputation. No cursor jumping (like my old Sony), and the biggest surprise was the super brite screen (on an IBM?) and the effortless way a 2003 model laptop can perform in a 2008 world. Sweet!

5Excellent!
By John B. Goode
This is my second laptop and I bought it after I saw my friend's ThinkPad. It's all you want from a laptop: it's small and fast.Size: It's light and small which is very important because I travel with it, but the 14" screen is not too small and the quality of the screen is quite good.Speed: It's not bad for what you're getting and it doesn't have a ton of pre-loaded programs on it, which is really what drags down the speed.Mechanics: All my previous computers have been Dell and I really like the keyboard, the mechanics and the build of this IBM. In fact, I like it so much I bought another one.Refurbished: I've read of other horror stories about refurbished computers, but the first one I bought was absolutely immaculate. I wouldn't have known that it was reburbished unless someone had told me.Last but not least: This still comes with XP and not liking change I hurried to get the last of these XP machines before everything becomes Windows 7. I had the first one for about 6 months now and knock on wood, everything seems A-OK, I highly recommend it
