A fine machine-unless you buy it from Data Sales co.

I have bought two of these computers from Data Sales Co. within a few weeks of each other. The first one worked great with no problems, however the next one I bought worked for only 4 days. Granted it is a refurbished model but come on...four days?! Anyway all I wanted to do was return this dud for another one of equal value (I didn't even want money back) After 2 weeks of ZERO response from Data Sales Co. I'm going with one star due to Very poor communication (none to be exact). Beware of buying this computer from Data Sales.

Not Bad. Not bad At All!

The Dell Latitude D600 is really a nice little laptop. It has numerous great features like built-in wifi capabilities, 512MB of memory, a highspeed processor that makes this laptop just speed along. I think its only flaws-- and minor ones too-- is the limiting 30 GB hard drive that can get filled up far too quickly and it's small screen. While 15.6 is a standard size, it can be hard to read sometimes nontheless.Yet this laptop is a great bargain for the price as is. Still, once I got it I decided to upgrade the hard drive and get a mouse to replace the sometimes troublesome pointing stick. If you need a good laptop but don't have a major budget, this is the one to get.Ron

Yes..... But

I couldn't agree more with the other reviews regarding the deceptiveness of some outfits - in this case Tiger - in selling refurbished items as new. I felt that it was important, however, to review the product and not the vendor. I've used the D610 professionally with great success for several years. I was so pleased with its performance that I bought one for my personal use as well as two more for my in-laws. I bought all three as refurbs but I knew what I was getting and the price was unbeatable at approximately $250.00 each. If you're a wannabe geek such as I am, you can easily find all of the service literature necessary to service the D610 yourself. I've never had to service any of the three that I bought, but I did expand the memory in all of them. I was pleased with how easy the upgrade was, how well engineered the product is, and how clear the service literature is as well. I bought a hard drive caddy and an additional 80GB HD to fit in the CD port, so now I have 2 bootable HDs and a ton of storage. If forced to search for a negative, the only thing I can come up with is the click action of the pointing device. The feel is a bit stiff and the sound is somewhat irritating. That said, if the pointing device ever became bothersome enough a USB mouse could be purchased for a couple of bucks. I was looking for another D610 to buy for my wife when I stumbled upon these reviews so I felt compelled to put in my two cents worth. Good luck with whatever product you choose!

Beware: Invalid License

I bought one of these laptops two months ago. It has been working just fine. Today Microsoft told me that the license is not valid. It has a valid certificate of authenticity on the back but does not have a second "refurbished" CoA. When I look at the internal System Properties/General tab it says "XP Corporate" which means it was covered under a mass/site license which can not be transferred or sold. I will probably have to buy a fresh copy of XP ($100) and re-install.Before I made the order I checked to see that the advertisement specified "Genuine Windows XP". I also checked the CoA when it arrived. When the Microsoft updater offered to run "Genuine Advantage" to check the authenticity I confidently thought "sure, go right ahead."BEWARE!

The D810 is built around the new Centrino platform and Pentium M CPU (the 2.13-GHz Pentium M 770 in our configuration). Our test unit also had 1GB of DDR2 RAM and ATI Radeon X600 (128MB) graphics. It's SYSMark Internet Content Creation score (186) and Office Productivity score (123) were at the top of notebooks we've tested recently. Despite all the energy-draining components, the D810 delivered a very good 4 hours 33 minutes of runtime). Credit the large chassis, which can accommodate a big 80-Wh battery.

Good Deal Gone Bad, but it was salvageable

I ordered this laptop because of its legacy hardware ( serial ports, LPT ports, USB ports, and above all else, Windows xp pro)- the purchase / checkout offered 2nd day delivery, yet took over 1 week to arrive- After arriving, inspecting the laptop, it was carefully wrapped, no visible damage was present.After putting everything together, plugging in the power cord, i get an error message that no hard drive is present, i go into the bios, and to my amazement, its still locked with a password, that no one knows-i pulled the Hard drive module out, and inspect everything, i find that the mini IDE header is missing a pin- , i emailed the seller this issue, he sends out another hard drive- a week goes by, and it finally arrives, i opened the package, and notice, it does not have the replacement header that i need to make the hard drive work.Frustrated, i get back on amazon, and search for this header adaptor, lo and behold, for 1.72 each, i buy 5 just to have them around in case i decide to buy another hard drive from these sellers that do not check everything fully.If i had been an everyday normal 'joe-the-consumer', this would have been a disasterous exchange. i gave a low rating because, when you sell something, regardless what it looks like, it should be functional before you ship, (tested, and tried)

Good Solid Machine

I purchased my D810 with windows XP refurbished from Tampa Laptops.It is a good solid machine. The screen appears to be wider. It is a heavier machine. I notice it on those times when I need to carry it a ways. Not alot but more than some other computers. It has a very solid cabinet. Nice sized keyboard is easy to type on. Once in a while the keyboard gets warm. My battery on this used one is running around 3-1/2 hours on a charge which I consider fine. The battery of course varries on used machines due to it's condition. But this tells you that a good battery runs for a good length of time. I like the machine. I am runing lots of older vintage software like the great Lotus stuff, etc and wanted to upgrade computers but not throw out all my software that won't run on the newer Windows Systems. This was a great purchase at a nice price.

Dell Latitude D630 14.1" Laptop

I bought this Laptop D630, 14.1 inches, because I needed a small computer to take on my trips. It worked for about one week, then it gouldn't turn on! Also, it was creating so much heat coming out from the CPU heat sink. Since I'm a technician, I made some repair on it, chainging 3 SMD Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors (Aluminum body devices located around the heat sink) and replacing the CPU heat sink thermal grease, applying new "Arctic Silver 5 3.5G Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Grease Compound" to CPU Heat Sink. Now it works fine again.

I have bought dozens of laptops and this company provides some of the best computers out there. They are just as fast, if not faster than the new ones out there because the company loads these up with the newest RAM, and the latest processors. I would NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER (can't say it enough)buy another new laptop. By the time they are 3 years old, they have to be refurbished anyway.

I ordered a Dell Latitude D600 from this seller...and what a mistake that was...when the computer arrived it was broken! it just came apart..at first the seller was trying to blame me what a joke..I just received the computer..I had to return the computer using my own money which was not cheap for them to find out that it was not assembled right. It took them another twice weeks to send me back another computer all this time I have not computer to work with after I have paid for one.After two long weeks I get the other computer delivered to me..finally I have a computer that work...so that is what I was thinking...plug it in thinking the power cord work..and my computer went dead...the power cord did not work!! so now I have a computer with no working power cord! I contacted the seller again..and he made me out to be a liar saying it was a new cord (which it was not)and I had to be joking.. he claims he would send me another one out..well that has been since August this is now Oct..and no power cord still to this day the power cord has never arrived..I can't afford to spend even one more penny to send this thing back so its seats in my closet...I have since purchase a new computer which I should have done in the first place.DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS SELLER OR YOU WILL BE SORRY YOU DID. Buy new...oh beat this...one more for the road...the "G" key is broken...and its an old computer in maybe ok shape at best..what a waste of time and money...buy new.

not a good laptop

This is the first laptop that I purchased from Amazon and am very disappointed. First of all, the battery does not hold the charge, and secondly the vendor said that there is nothing he can do as he claimed that it was tested and found that the battery held it's charge for more than five minutes. I can't return it because it did not come with any warranty and the vendor did not offer other solutions. I am not comfortable buying another laptop from Amazon or recommending others to do.

still a workhorse laptop

I've been using the Precision M70 for the last three years and I still think it outperforms most of the new laptops that I've worked on. It is a tough, well constructed latop that is great for everyday work. The video card which seperated this model from other Dells of its time is very good and better than most stock videos on new laptops.

An Excellent Purchase

This computer was purchased to replace a newer machine the had failed and has been a fine replacement. After adding the battery that the seller said was missing I have been very pleased with the performance of it. Though it is a used machine, it was in nearly new condition and has worked well, even accepting a 2GB memory upgrade from the failed machine it replaced. with that addition it has been able to run Windows 7 without fault. This is how a purchase should be, honest and easy. If this seller has another machine offered, buy it, you can't go wrong.
